Don’t be shocked when you hear what people say against the faith. Because those who are talking don’t understand what it really is. You just remember the basic principle which the early Christians knew very well. They felt sorry for people who knew all the sciences, but didn’t know God. On the other hand, they counted those people blessed who knew God, even if they knew absolutely nothing about human affairs. Guard this knowledge as the greatest treasure in your heart, and make your way straight ahead, looking neither left nor right. We mustn’t let what we hear against religion make us lose our sense of direction. Saint Luke the Surgeon

On 7 January, the Church celebrates the Synaxis of the Honourable Forerunner and Baptist, John. It is the oldest feast of our Church for John the Baptist and it came from God. God enlightened the Fathers of the Church and they appointed the day after Epiphany for us to honour Saint John, the man who baptized Our Lord. He’s the greatest saint of our Church. No-one compares to the Mother of God, of course, but John is “the greatest of those born to woman”. In the flesh, the love of Christ for humankind. The friend of sinners. The preacher of repentance. The desert-loving dove. It matters not in which desert we find ourselves, be it the desert of cities or of ...

It often happens that we see or hear about people’s injustices and sins and we’re in the habit of being pleased about them. We express our joy in a shameless way, by laughing foolishly. This isn’t right. We should stop this bad habit, lest we’re condemned for it. Saint John Kronstadtskij

There’s no shorter route than bearing temptations, in whatever manner they may come upon you. People’s spiritual state and the grace they have is apparent from their patience. Saint Iosif the Hesychast

We’re all sinners. Just by being on earth and being clothed in the flesh, every step we take is a sin. The world’s wallowing in sin and doesn’t realize it. Saint Georgios Karslidis

Great Holy Water is recommended by spiritual guides in certain instances where the person confessing has fallen into a sin and doesn’t have a blessing to receive communion. In this case, his or her spiritual guide will suggest fasting and will offer Holly Water as a consolation. The Holy Water isn’t a substitute for Holy Communion, which is God’s greatest gift to us. As regards the matter of Great Holy Water, the faithful have a number of questions. They ask: ‘Do we drink Great Holy Water on the eve of Theophany? Can we have Great Holy Water at home and use it?’ Often they get a rough and ready answer which simply confuses them. Regarding the Great Holy Water and its preservation, ...
