Nikiforos Theotokis was born on 15 February, in the year 1731, in the town of Kerkyra . The fourth child of seven, his parents, Stefanos and Anastasia Theotokis, gave him the name Nikolaos at his baptism. Deification in the Greek Patristic Tradition (Anastasia Raptakis, Theologian)

The metaphorical meaning of Deification was first used by Clement of Alexandria. In the 6th century, Dionysius the Areopagite mentioned that deification is the attaining to the likeness of God and the union with Him as much as possible. In the 7th century, Maximus the Confessor redefined the meaning and classified it as a theological topic in its own right.  The reason for this is that deification language is usually used metaphorically. Who is the newly-proclaimed Saint Meletios? (Evagoras Makhaira)

On 27 November, 2013, the Ecumenical Patriarchate entered two new names into the Calendar of Saints of the Church: Porfyrios Kavsokalyvitis and Hieromonk Meletios, from Ypseni, Rhodes. Many Orthodox will already know about Saint Porfyrios, who lived recently (1906-1991). But who was Saint Meletios? He was born in the village of Lardos, on Rhodes, towards the end of the 18th century.
