Blessed are those who have acquired love, because they depart to God with this in their possession and He will therefore recognize them as His own and welcome them into His bosom. In other words, those who have labored in love will live with the angels and reign with Christ. Because the Word of God came into the world with love. It’s what Paradise was opened to us with, and what the ascent to heaven was declared to everyone to be. We were God’s enemies and we’ve been reconciled with Him through love. So it’s right to say that God is love and that those who dwell in love dwell ‘in God’.

The blessed martyr Iakovos (James) was born in the village of Voevonades, which is not far from Kastoria and was baptized Ioannis. His parents, Martinos and Paraskevi, were poor but devout. Apart from Ioannis, they had another son and the parents divided what they had between them.
