13-year anniversary of the repose in the Lord of Elder Joseph of Vatopedi

Today marks the 13-year anniversary of the repose in the Lord of Elder Joseph of Vatopedi.
An annual memorial service was solemnly held on Friday with centuries-old Athonite ecclesiastical rite, the first since the retrieval of reposed Elder’s remains.

On the eve of the anniversary of the Elder Joseph’s repose, a memorial liturgy was held, officiated by the Bishop of Amathounda, His Grace Nikolaos, and co-officiated by the Elder Archimandrite Ephraim, the Abbot of the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi, along with other Mount Athos Abbots and Elders. The Ecumenical Patriarchate was represented by Archimandrite Fr. Chrysostomos Papadakis.

The Elder Joseph arrived on Holy Mount Athos in 1946, at the age of 25, being one of the few cell disciples of St. Joseph the Hesychast.

He was born in Cyprus on July 1, 1921.
