Feast day of Joseph, the Righteous of Arimathea; Eudocimus, the Righteous of Cappadocia
31 Ιουλίου 2020
The Church today venerates the memory of Joseph, the Righteous of Arimathea.
St. Joseph was a prominent Jewish leader during the time of Jesus Christ. He is mentioned in the Gospels as being a wealthy man from a location called Armiathea, and also a secret disciple of Christ.
After the crucifixion and death of the Lord, Joseph approached Pontius Pilate out of piety and asked for the body of Jesus for a proper and honourably burial.
Together with St. Nicodemus, he removed the body of Christ from the Cross in the presence of the Theotokos, the Virgin Mary, and the Myrrh-Bearing Women. This disciple later travelled the world proclaiming the Gospel, until he reposed in peace.
Today is also the feast day of Eudocimus, the Righteous of Cappadocia.
A feature is posted today on the pages of the diakonima.gr on the lives of these saints.
