A big thank you and many claims by the prisoners of the 6th wing at Korydallos Detention Centre
9 Απριλίου 2012
Prisoner Antonis Papadatos, representing the prisoners of the sixth wing at Korydallos Detention Centre, has sent a ‘thank you’ letter to Elder Efraim, expressing his gratitude to the Lord for sending him to them!
The letter also refers to the problems the prisoners are facing, like crowded cells with more than 25 prisoners, the lack of cleanliness and the great dangers of catching diseases like typhus, cholera and tuberculosis.
‘In this letter we would like to publicly thank Elder Efraim for supporting us like a father with love and understanding but also for the sense of serenity which he has brought to us during the time of his detention.
In a few words we would like to clearly denounce the awful conditions at Korydallos which has a capacity of 800 detainees but houses more than 2500. As a result we are held in cells of more than 25 people, along with entire armies of cockroaches, mice and cats with typhus, with no heating, surrounded by moulding walls built fifty years ago. We are eating food which not even dogs touch, shower in icy water but nevertheless we are thinking that indeed God exists, and we thank Him, for bringing us Elder Efraim to strengthen us and embrace each one of us with his fatherly affection’.
PS.
‘Could it be that Elder Efraim came to us by himself to assist us at a time when the state is non-existent or did he come to us as a person in detention? Are there really such thick judges who saw him personally and yet they sent such a person to Korydallos? ‘Lord have mercy on us’ ( as the Elder told us to say…)
