“Laughter is democracy. Sulkiness is a form of social fascism…”

“We must not only live with a free spirit during our public life, but also during our everyday contact with others we must be free from mistrust, since we should not be angry against others for what they do in order to please themselves, neither should we sulk in front of them. This may not injure but it certainly harms someone. “
Thoukidedes “ History” Book B, ch. 37 read more…Democracy in practice and not in idle theory.
We must not brood because it is something which creates irritation to our fellow citizens. We should be trying to show a pleasant attitude in our contact with others, instead.
During our contact with others, we should not show our irritation, even if something is bothering us. No one wants to see us with drooping faces, first thing in the morning. The true democrat, the one who is showing self respect, does not allow its spite to poison his day, and subsequently the days of others. He who sulks disturbs my aesthetics.
Let us ponder on what is making us brood.
Often bad critique disturbs our day, especially when it is directed against ourselves. Our day is also disturbed when we realize that someone else has had better luck than us. Malice: That’s what is disturbing us.
I should begin my day with a smile. This is derived from the depth of my soul, after it has properly appreciated things. What is needed is a smile, a pleasant attitude every day, even when it is being a difficult one.
The true democrat, that is, a free man, who has thrown the weight of vainglory overbroad, will find a thousand and one ways to be pleased, since he has learnt to appreciate the gift of life.
